About

The target audience for this blog consists of most of the people I’m surrounded by and observe on a daily basis. Growing up as a white, Canadian woman, my positionality while analyzing global development issues is certainly from a place of privilege. I could go on for days about my self-reflective thoughts on how positionality effects my worldview. However, I notice these effects the most in those around me and how they react to development issues and matters of social justice.

I think its super important to emphasize that people are a product of their surroundings. I understand why this disconnect occurs and that it is not the fault of those who only know what they know. That being said, I am hopeful that more people will take the initiative to become more informed and ultimately just care more about such critical and fundamental social issues. It has always interested and simultaneously concerned me that so many people are unaware of important contemporary issues, especially in an era of accessible information. Further, I have more recently been concerned about the media coverage of certain issues that cause confusion, perpetuate fake news, or sources that are intimidating in terms of language and readability for those who may not be as experienced in global development topics.

Thus, I really want this blog to be a space to learn and grow free from judgement, and in the absence of “woke” or “extreme left” stigma that is growing in modern media. So, I am writing this blog in hopes that it will be an easy to understand, educational tool for anyone who could benefit from developing their perspective and who is willing to learn about things that are happening outside of their personal bubble.
