Why read this blog…
As human beings we have a tendency to be concerned with our own lives and events that only immediately effect ourselves. I’m sure you are guilty of this just as I can be while wrapped up in my latest binge-worthy Netflix show, tomorrows outfit (weather dependent of course), or what I should have for dinner tonight; do I save money and cook or treat myself to Uber Eats? First and foremost, this is not a crime. It is natural to cater to your happiness and self-interests and no one should be penalized for it. That being said, in the age of social media and modernity where we are connected more than ever before, there is a profound disconnect worldwide.
Maybe it is due to the over-saturation of information we all consume daily that we are numb to things happening in the world, no matter how awful they may be. Or, it could be that we feel it doesn’t matter if we know anything about something happening half way across the world. It could also be that we have no power to do anything about bad things that happen in the world so why bother knowing. To this, I will just say that in my opinion, knowledge is power. If we were all a little more well-versed in how we treat each other across the globe maybe the world would be brighter. Or not. Either way, it is important we all know what is happening around us. I ask that you read these short, easily understandable posts to equip yourself with the tools to empathize, advocate, and contribute meaningfully to the pursuit of a more equitable and sustainable planet.
